A fashionable family-hauler for urban dwellers

The 2019 Buick Encore continues the nameplate’s reputation for efficiency and compactness while offering consumers the space and technology they need to feel confident on the road.

Efficient performance

If you want an eco-friendly ride, the 2019 Encore certainly suits. Buick designed this model with a 1.4-liter DOHC turbocharged four-cylinder engine that sips fuel sparingly. It achieves an EPA-estimated average 33 mpg on the highway to save you from frequent stops for gas.*

A spectrum of features

While some compact SUVs emphasize either practicality or comfort, the Encore prioritizes both. Roof-mounted side rails come standard on all trims. You can also upgrade to the Preferred trim and above to incorporate roof rack cross rails. Select the top-of-the-line Essence trim to enjoy in heated front seats, an optional in-vehicle air ionizer and a driver’s seat with memory settings.

Contemporary technology

The Encore includes options for the latest infotainment and safety features to keep passengers engaged and protected on each adventure. Trips on a Tank! | Milwaukee to Oshkosh | Milwaukee, WI

Trips on a Tank! | Milwaukee to Oshkosh
Milwaukee is a great city to live in, with so much to see and do, from museums and restaurant to professional sports. However, even with so much to keep you occupied, sometimes it’s fun to just hope in the car and get away for a bit.

Oshkosh is a great destination for just a day or week-long summer vacation and there is plenty to see and do both there and along the way. It can be reached in only a couple of hours of driving and on just one tank of gas!

Driving from Milwaukee
A drive via Highway 45, (I-41 from Milwaukee to Richfield) is an easy road trip that is less than 100 miles. This route will take you though some of the most beautiful areas in Wisconsin, through Menomonee Falls, Fond du Lac and along the shore of Lake Winnebago.

Just south of Fond du Lac, where it joins US 151, Highway 45 reaches a point where it jogs to the west and rejoins I-41 and goes north, around Fond du Lac to the junction with WIS 23. From there it follows the shore of Lake Winnebago as a two-lane road and then enters and runs through Oshkosh as Main Street.

Sights to See Along the Way
Menomonee Falls
One of the two major stops along the way is Menomonee Falls, just as you enter Waukesha County. Unbeknownst to most Wisconsin residents outside of Menomonee Falls, with population of 35,626 this is state’s largest “village,” as the folks there just haven’t gotten around to applying to become a city quite yet.

Basse’s Taste of Country
Family owned and operated, the Basse’s Taste of Country U-pick Farm is a family-friendly environment that is a great stop for children. The spring season starts with U-pick strawberries in June followed by U-pick raspberries and then blackberries in July. U-pick apples start in the fall and the season is wrapped up by the Basse’s ever-improving and fun-packed pumpkin festival.

Krueger’s Entertainment Center
Krueger’s Entertainment Center offers families an assortment of games and attractions and has a pub menu with pizza. The arcade features video and redemption games and the center hosts birthday parties.

Fond du Lac
Fond du Lac is the second major stop on this road trip and offers you a good chance to get out of the car for a bit.

Wild Goose State Trail
Wild Goose State Trail, administer by the Wisconsin State Park System, can be accessed in Fond du Lac. The trail follows the western edge of the vast Horicon Marsh, home to over 250 bird species and is world-famous for its abundant migrant waterfowl, wildflowers and other wildlife species.

Fondy Sports Park
Fondy Sports Park is an indoor/outdoor amusement park that offers you the opportunity to ride a kart-style off-road vehicle and also has a go-kart track, bumper boats and mini golf. Snacks and picnic areas are available. Open April to October.

Activities in Oshkosh
Located at the mouth of the Fox River at Lake Winnebago, the city is a friendly town with origins dating back to the mid-1800s lumber industry. Beautiful green spaces for picnicking and water parks, art galleries, historic sights and museums are just a few of the things to do here. Here is a short list of things you and your family can do while you are on summer vacation:

Asylum Point Lighthouse
Built in 1937, the famous Asylum Point Lighthouse is set on a tiny island in Asylum Bay on Lake Winnebago. While the lighthouse isn’t open for tours, the area is a great spot to have a picnic and offers stunning views of the lake.

EEA Aviation Museum
The Experimental Aircraft Association’s, or EEA, Aviation Museum displays both historical and experimental aircraft and is home to over 200 antique and classic airplanes. The annual EAA AirVenture air show in July sees up to 15,000 aircraft fly in from all over the world, making the town’s aircraft-control tower the busiest in the world for one week every year.

Friar Tuck’s
Friar Tuck’s restaurants operates three locations around town, all of which serve lunch and dinner daily. They offer a varied menu of casual cuisine, such as salads, soups, sandwiches, wings, burgers and hot dogs and Friar’s classic prime rib sandwiches and fries are not to be missed!

Hughes’ Home-Maid Chocolates
This is a locally-owned family candy shop started in 1940. A variety of sweets include assorted chocolates, cherry cordials, creams, Easter eggs and other chocolate treats.

Veterans Museum
The Museum was established in 1991 by World War II veterans. There is a variety of exhibits of artifacts, artworks, documents, books, photographs and personal heirlooms of the veteran’s families. The museum also holds a motor pool, a WWII military vehicle collection, and other displays like of a piece of the USS Arizona that was sunk at Pearl Harbor, a WWII Soviet-era built tank and a Quad-50 anti-aircraft gun mount.

Menominee Park Zoo
Stretching along the shores of Lake Winnebago, the zoo displays a revolving roster of 50 common and exotic fauna species each season. There is also amusement rides, a miniature train and paddleboats on the lake. The zoo opens the first weekend in May and closes the last week of September.

New Moon Café
The New Moon Café serves up delicious vegetarian cuisine with locally-crafted beers and desserts and has live music and open-mic nights. The café serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

On the Loos Cruises
Family-owned and operated On the Loos Cruises has been providing cruises on a handsome riverboat since 1989. Designed to showcase the area’s most scenic spots, both public and private cruises are available.

Farmers Market
A local farmers market is held year round and features approximately 130 vendors offering local produce, meats, cheeses and baked goods. There is also live music and entertainment.

Public Museum
A public Museum is located in the Sawyer House, in the Algoma Boulevard Historic District. The museum is a testament to the arrival of early Eastern European immigrants and features an elaborately carved staircase, stained-glass windows and other interesting artifacts.

Pollock Community Water Park
Pollock Community Water Park features a variety of water-based activities like tube rides down a river with water curtains, winding water slides and a 16,500 square-foot swimming pool and sun decks. The park is open June to August.

Vines and Rushes Winery

New Car Review | 2019 Ford Explorer | Milwaukee, WI

New Car Review | 2019 Ford Explorer
A 2019 Ford Explorer should make the short list of anyone in the market for a new car. Its innovative appearance, user-friendly features, and options that go the extra mile are good incentives to take a close look at this mid-size crossover SUV.

Car dealerships like Boucher in Kenosha, West BendMenomonee Falls, Thiensville, or Janesville provide information on new and used cars in addition to automobile repair services. Explorer vehicles offer many options, so it is helpful for car shoppers to speak with experts to determine which package will best suit their lifestyles.

Interior Features

The 2019 Ford Explorer has room to comfortably seat six or seven people. Seats are arranged in three rows in a spacious cabin. A deep cargo provides adequate volume to accommodate sporting gear and rambunctious dogs. Active families who love outdoor life in Wisconsin will appreciate the Explorer’s roominess. Third-row and second-row seats can be folded down to allow for even more cargo capacity.

If seated at the front of the cabin, passengers will notice the open feel of it. Optional sliding captain chair seating in the second row provides more space and leg room and more comfortable experience than the standard bench. Also, it makes it much easier to access the third row. Interior surfaces vary according to which of the three trim models is chosen.

Exterior Features

The most distinctive features one sees when looking at the Explorer’s front are the LED headlamps and dynamic grille design with the trademark logo emblem across the front of it. Signature LED lights complement the rear as well. Low-beam headlights are automatic, becoming operational based on light sensors.

Keeping to its stylish good looks incorporated with utility, the Explorer features a quad-tip exhaust. It has four passenger doors with neat trim underneath and a liftgate in the back. Colors range from ruby red to blue to agate black to Oxford white.

Vehicle Features

• Engine: 3.5 liter, 6 cylinder

• Transmission: 6-speed shiftable automatic

• 290 horsepower

• Basic model provides cloth upholstery interior

• Manual climate control

• USB port

• Gas mileage: 17 mpg city/ 24mpg highway

Optional Features on Base Model

• Choice of two towing packages

• 2.3-liter turbocharged engine (Ecoboost and 4-cylinder)

A customer-oriented car dealership, such as Boucher in Janesville, can help people decide whether a base model Explorer is sufficient for all their needs or whether they require a higher trim.

Higher Trim Models

XLT 4 Door SUV

This trim offers rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. More optional perks are available for the XLT as opposed to the base version, including hands-free liftgate, dual-zone climate control, and Sync 3.

Limited

The Limited offers options for additional luxury while keeping the costs significantly lower than a top-of-the-line new vehicle. The interior features leather upholstery, power-folding split-bench seats for the third row, and a heated steering wheel. Air filtration comes standard for the Limited Explorer.

The Limited luxury package includes 20-inch premium painted machined aluminum wheels, chrome mirror caps, and a leather steering wheel. It also includes Active Motion on the front seats. It is functional enough to take on a fishing trip to Kenosha and still sufficiently attractive to grace Wanaki Golf Course in Menomonee Falls.

Standard Features on Limited Exterior

• Power-folding, driver memory mirrors

• Chrome roof rack side rails

• Foot-activated liftgate

• Chrome bodyside accents with Explorer engraving

• Black bumpers and side claddings

Standard Features on Limited Interior

• Front and rear-view cameras with built-in washers

• 110 volt outlet and four 12 volt powerpoints

• Power door locks, power windows

• Remote start capability

Optional Features on Limited

• Automatic high-beam headlamps

Sport

As implied, the Sports trim’s focus is mostly on performance. The suspension is sports-tuned and customers can choose among nine different styles of 20-inch wheels. A powerful engine features a twin-turbo V6.

The Sport trim has a unique look with its black mesh grille, high gloss black roof side rails, blackout treatment of the taillamps, and black exterior handles. The side view mirror also has a black gloss finish and features LED signal indicators and approach lamps.

A Sport Explorer has a Terrain Management System perfect for shifting during off-road driving. Mud/ruts is an example of one of the four settings. The Sport also has independent front and rear suspensions, Electronic Power Assist Steering. Hill Start Assist, and Hill Descent Control. Intelligent 4WD can prove invaluable in certain driving conditions in places like Milwaukee.

Several of the devices that come standard with the Platinum or Limited can be added as an option to the Sport. These include a few advanced safety features like Adaptive Cruise Control with Collision Warning. Also optional are front view camera, power tilt steering wheel, 110-volt outlet, and ambient lighting.

Platinum

Finally, the Platinum offers the ultimate in comfort and luxury with premium leather seats and a panoramic sunroof. Accessories are catered for convenience and extend to the highest quality sound system.

The additional care and quality are evident on first sight of the Platinum model. The grille is finished with satin chrome as are the roof rack side rails. Rain-sensing wipers, LED fog lights, and Automatic Halogen Reflector High Beams round out this SUV’s sleek and sophisticated impression. Not only is the Explorer good for looks though. Many of its features are designed to improve safety for drivers in West Bend, Wisconsin, and other places where inclement weather is common.

Standard interior features for the Platinum trim in addition to those found in the Limited are a Twin-panel moonroof and Platinum-branded floor mats. The steering wheel is wrapped in leather and provides secondary audio controls. The seats are Nirvana leather with quilted inserts for extra comfort.

Stand-Out Options for the Explorer

Towing package

The Explorer can tow up to 5,000 pounds with the correct gear. Standard equipment is the Class III trailer tow package, which comes with a frame-mounted hitch, oil cooler, and seven-pin connectors. Hauling horses between Janesville and Thiensville seems like nothing with a properly equipped Explorer.

Safety

The Explorer’s airbag technology is second to none with passenger knee airbags and Safety Canopy System that deploys airbags for outboard passengers. An SOS post-crash alert system automatically sounds the horn and switches on emergency flashers if airbags deploy. Finally, Explorers come standard with traction control and Roll Stability Control, ideal for icy or rainy conditions in Milwaukee, for instance.

An optional Smart & Safety Package offers forward collision control with brake support and Lane-Keeping System to guard against drift.

Conclusion

A sport utility vehicle is a sensible purchase. It does not even have to be a top-end luxury or performance model to accommodate the busy lifestyles of people contending with snow and rain, trying to transport livestock or heavy equipment, or simply dealing with day-to-day work commutes. In a class that has become extremely competitive, the Explorer holds its own both in appearance and function. Boucher in Kenosha, West BendMenomonee Falls, Thiensville, or Janesville can help you find the perfect Ford Explorer to fit your everyday needs.
